France!

I had the great fortune to be able to go on a very last minute trip to France with my mom. She and her sister had it all planned out, for almost a year now, but at the last minute my Aunt was not able to go. As a long shot my mom looked at me and said, "Well? Want to go?" And why, yes, I did want to go. The man was awesome about it. The bug did great as well, although she wouldn't talk to me any time I called. And a huge thanks goes out to everyone who helped while I was gone - my awesome mother-in-law, sister-in-law, sister, and aunt. Thanks for making things so much easier on the homefront.

I chronicled my trip with over 1300 photos and a journal entry pretty much each day. No, I will not bore you with 1300+ photos. But I will bore you with my thoughts and a few of the photos. So the next series of posts you will see will be my days in France.

Au revoir. Et merci.

Oreo sunflower cupcakes

We went to a first birthday a few months ago and had the most adorable cupcakes.

So dang cute. The center is an Oreo!

The bugs are decorated skittles and the leaves are from fruit roll ups.

See, an Oreo!

And the best thing of all - these were made by a truly talented 14 year old girl. (One who has never taken a class!)

I just love this idea!

My bug loves bugs

Much to my chagrin. She will often come into my office, "Look Mommy!" and I am hopping up and trying to keep my voice as calm as I can, "Okay honey, let's bring him outside where he belongs."

Block for birthday quilt

This is a block for CeCe's 'big' birthday.

Her daughter sent out a letter to family and friends, with the white square, and said have at it. And then send back to her. Our assumption was that she would work with a friend to put into a quilt for her Mom's big birthday. Actually, she put them in a photo album and CeCe gets to put them in a quilt. I actually like the photo albumn idea if you can't get something done in time, as she has been able to share all the blocks that people sent. It is amazing how many of them you can pick out by the style, the content, the technique and such. Let me tell you, this is going to be one purple quilt.

A friend of ours made one in the same style before the Bug was born. You can see it here. I treasure it. And I hope to be able to make one for someone else one day.

Works of Art

So this is another Pinterest project. I am just loving that site.

This is one of our only free walls, and actually it wasn't really free. I had to oust a fish picture. The man looooooves to fish so we have fish and related things on display in the kitchen (because he also loves to cook and does most/all of the cooking) and into the family room as they are connected.

So, down came the fish picture and up went the empty frames with clips. That simple. Now we can hang all of the bug's art as it comes home from school. These are the first things home from preschool, and it is only the second week. They will go into whatever frame fits the size via the binder clip. So easy. And the frame on the bottom and the top can also be switched to hang the other direction if needed. I think we were studying red this week....

Is there something odd about this?

I love McDonalds. I can't help it. I know it is just horrible for me, but I love it.

The other day I noticed this:

The bumper sticker says "Go Vegan - and no one gets hurt".

Is it just me or is that out of place at a McDonalds?

Cutting it too close

Wow. That was a close one.

This is a kit I purchased at a guild meeting. It is Thai silk to benefit a group that are trying to get girls out of the sex trade there. I'll show the entire quilt later. But the binding made me a little nervous. They definitely cut their fabric to exactly what they think you will need.

See, I have been doing some quilty things...
