Oobleck! - otherwise known as that cool goop

This is great. Kids love it. But I have to say that adults love it too. The man used to teach elementary school and he introduced this to me before we were married. I got so excited about it. We used to go to parties, and I mean the adult kind of parties where you stay out late, drink too much, raise a ruckus and generally act like children. And I would raid the kitchen wherever we were and make this stuff. Imbibing adults really like it.

And now we know that the bug likes it too.

According to Instructables: Oobleck is a non-newtonian fluid. That is, it acts like a liquid when being poured, but like a solid when a force is acting on it. You can grab it and then it will ooze out of your hands. Make enough Oobleck and you can even walk on it!

Oobleck gets its name from the Dr. Seuss book Bartholomew and the Oobleck where a gooey green substance, Oobleck, fell from the sky and wreaked havoc in the kingdom. Here the Oobleck will be made in a bowl and will likely make a mess, but only because you can get carried away playing with it.

(I just love the internet. I did not know any of this before now.)

It really is a fun experiment and you probably have what you need in your cabinet now. Cornstarch and water. That's it. The ration is between 1:1.5 and 1:2, water to cornstarch. So 1 cup of water and between 1.5-2 cups of cornstarch. They used food coloring which would be very cool. We've only ever done straight white.

Make up a batch and act like a kid. Even if you don't have one.

We are Thankful

One of the great things about my new job is that I get to be one of the room moms for Bug’s preschool class. The other room mom is AWESOME. She is so dang creative I love it. And so far we work really well together. For Thanksgiving she came up with the greatest project for their teacher. Each kid was given a paper leaf to write what they were thankful for about their teacher. Then we put it together in a frame. It’s great because she has a lot of scrapbook supplies and I have the fiber arts and other random things covered.

Turned out so cute.

Oh, and Christmas was gift cards with fun little mini trees. And we made ornaments with each of the kid’s photos. Again, such a great idea (Laura!) and so dang cute. (But I forgot to take a picture. Duh.) Wonder what we can come up with for Valentine’s Day?

Oreo sunflower cupcakes

We went to a first birthday a few months ago and had the most adorable cupcakes.

So dang cute. The center is an Oreo!

The bugs are decorated skittles and the leaves are from fruit roll ups.

See, an Oreo!

And the best thing of all - these were made by a truly talented 14 year old girl. (One who has never taken a class!)

I just love this idea!

Memory Jar

I browse through Pinterest and love what I come across. Many of the things really inspire me. I don't pin clothing ideas, or things I want to buy, or a lot of way out things. Most of what I have on my boards is stuff I actually want to do. And I am moving through that list.

Take the Memory Jar. The description was along the lines of 'write down memories throughout the year and then read them on New Year's Eve (or maybe it ws New Year's day - whatever). So I found an old container in the box of things I have in the garage for that just in case we want to use this later type event, made some labels explaining the deal, cut some strips of paper, taped a small envelope to the outside for the strips, and VOILA!

And we have actually been using it. It sits on the kitchen counter (with way too many other things). So we see it. So we use it.

Here is a great example of what we put in there. Saturday was the 'Celebration of Life' for the man's uncle. It was actually a really nice day. And after the planned events we had some of the cousins back to our house for pizza and such. Well as we were sitting outside in the evening, as it grew dark, it grew a bit chilly. So the man went in and brought out some wraps for a few people. The bug comes out of the house a few minutes later with some of her blankets in her hands and gives them to people she thinks might need them. Unbidden. No conversation. This child is three. I am amazed by her. And proud.

Anyway, that story went in the jar. I don't know if I would remember it otherwise. And I am so glad that now I will.

Love this wreath for the beach

I just love this wreath.

And of course I want to make it. I'd love to give credit for the inspiration but the reality is I was on a walk with my girlfriend and she snapped a pic on her fancy phone and sent it to me. The closest I can get for accurate accreditation is some great bungalow type house in Pacific Beach.

It has air plants and maybe some bromeliad type plants and star fish and I think some very well placed shells. You can click on the photo to make it larger, not that it will be all that much more detailed. But hey, it looks great for a phone photo!

This was over the holidays so I wonder if this is just their 'holiday' wreath or if they have it up year round. I wonder if I could find that house again.....

I sure do wonder a lot.

Hedgies!

I love my hedgies! They are so cute. I loved them the minute I saw this post at Darling Petunia. I knew I had to make them. Just had to.

It took me awhile to scope out the hand mits. I have to limit my trips to the dollar store. I know each item is only a dollar, but man, can I spend way too much money in that store. It is amazing! So I am wary about going too often.

And of course I couldn't get just one color. I had to get all three. I mean, they're only a dollar.

The Bug loves them. And bless my friends, they humor me and tell me they like them too.
This week I decided to join Sew & Tell over at AmyLouWho. Go see what other people have created this week. Be inspired.

Beautiful eggs - wish I had seen this a few weeks ago....

Oh my gosh! These are beautiful! You have to go see. They are Silk-Dyed Eggs {aka TIE-Dyed!} at Our Best Bites.

I first saw them at Count it *all* Joy as I was just browsing around. Wow - so cool. Hers are beautiful. I am off to find photos of more that I can drool over and be inspired by, but needed to share first. Isn't the internet wonderful?

Good thing I have 18 blown eggs that we didn't decorate this year. All I need now are the ties. I am off to thrift!

(I really want to post photos here instead of sending you off, but I don't feel right about stealing someone's photo to do it. So please, go to the links. You'll love them.)

The 'net really is great. I mean, think about it. I started out the evening just poking around, looking here and there. Enjoying, but really more like killing time. And then Bam - I run across this page of awesomeness. I am totally inspired. My heart is racing a bit. My mind is spinning on when I can tackle this project. My hopes are up that it will turn out to be beautiful. I am excited! Love it!
